Hyperborean Furniture Music
Musique d’amueblement was a term coined by Erik Satie in the early 1900s. It is sound meant to accompany a space, as a sort of auditory feng shui. I began recording improvisations with this idea in mind.
The entire playlist for Hyperborean Furniture Music can be found on my Youtube channel. Quite a bit of material gets created; I try to make the titles somewhat interesting. Images are selected to aid in contemplation, or suggestive «furniture» for the room.
I’m still working on the method of producing them, and now find that a free improvisation, if parts are repeated appropriately in the editing process, can often result in a cogent little song. Other improvisations, more constrained to chordal patterns, are easier to repeat (remember) in the moment, and are done during the performance, and are left as they were recorded. The first half of Ebb and Flower and Aether Lor are among these.
