Songwriting: Hands on song production and composition class

Songwriting, like anything, is something everyone can get better at.

I offer both individual and group classes for anyone interested in taking a musical idea from its earliest stages to the finished product, ready to be sent off for external mixing or mastering. I combine the unique benefits of someone trained musically in classical, jazz, and contemporary genres as well as in Comparative Literature and poetry (phD, 2015). These gifts are coupled with a producer’s eyes and ears. Group or individual classes will foster creative techniques in order to develop the ideas, pulse and vibe that mark great albums, including automatic writing, revision, implementing external critique, and taking advantage of the potential of recording technologies (a true windfall for the songwriter and composer). I am comfortable working with poetic lyrics in various languages (English, Spanish, Galician, Portuguese or French) and can provide extensive guidance here. By learning and honing an array of compositional techniques and methods the writing process becomes dramatically streamlined. Thus, inspiration is not something that strikes, it is just a byproduct of a well-cultivated flow state.
